The AASPT Pulse - April 2026 Edition

MESSAGE FROM THE AASPT PRESIDENT
As we continue to build on the Academy’s momentum, I want to take a moment to reflect on where we are and where we’re headed.
Over the past year, the Board has been focused on strengthening the Academy’s foundation, enhancing governance practices, improving operational consistency, and ensuring we are well-positioned to support our members now and into the future, while not forgetting the history of what got us here today.
To support this, we are introducing a new standing section in our newsletter, Inside the Boardroom, which will provide regular updates on Board discussions, initiatives, votes and priorities. This section will also include a monthly high-level financial update, along with more comprehensive quarterly updates, to enhance transparency into the Academy’s work and stewardship. To improve efficiency and reduce the number of documents and locations to review, all updates will be housed in a single, centralized location on our website. We also recognize the importance of listening.
In this newsletter you will find a link to a Member Satisfaction Survey, and I strongly encourage you to participate. Your feedback will help guide our priorities, strengthen our communication, and ensure we deliver meaningful value to our members.
Looking ahead, the Board remains focused on advancing our strategic priorities, supporting member engagement, expanding educational opportunities, strengthening our community, and continuing to build a sustainable and forward-looking organization.
Thank you for your continued engagement, your trust, and your commitment to the Academy.
Airelle O. Giordano PT, DPT

INSIDE THE BOARDROOM
This month, the Board of Directors continued advancing key initiatives aligned with the Academy’s mission while maintaining a strong focus on governance, financial stewardship, and future growth.
Governance & Strategic Progress
The Board approved updates to the Academy’s Policies & Procedures Manual, including enhanced committee and SIG structures to strengthen leadership pathways and operational consistency. The revised 2026 edition has now been posted on the website and is available to members on the website: https://www.sportspt.org/policies-and-bylaws
In addition, the Board reviewed and supported a multi-year strategic implementation framework focused on building a strong foundation in 2026, increasing member engagement in 2027, and ensuring long-term sustainability overall.
Member Communication & Transparency
The Board reviewed recent member feedback and reaffirmed its commitment to clear, consistent communication while maintaining governance best practices. Ongoing enhancements, including regular updates and improved access to information, continue to support transparency and member awareness. As part of this commitment, your feedback is essential. Communication & Platform Updates
The Academy continues to enhance its communication and engagement platform through Kajabi. Development of a new community forum is currently underway, which will provide members with opportunities for real-time connection, discussion, and collaboration with colleagues.
In addition, educational offerings within the platform are being updated and expanded to improve accessibility and support ongoing professional development.
Stay tuned for additional updates, including a virtual town hall planned for early this summer, where we will share more details and provide an opportunity for member input.
Programs & Meetings
Planning continues for the upcoming Annual Meeting in Seattle, with early registration trends aligning with broader industry patterns of later registration. The Board is also exploring innovative approaches to future educational offerings, including alternative models for pre-conference programming at CSM to better manage costs and accessibility.
Advancing the Profession
We are excited to announce that the Board has voted to rejoin in its membership with ISEPA (formerly IFSPT) and will be highlighting new initiatives and member benefits with this partnership. These discussions will focus on expanding educational offerings, strengthening global engagement, and identifying opportunities that further the Academy’s mission and member value.
Financial Overview
March 2026
The Academy reported $47,065 in revenue and $32,674 in expenses, resulting in a net operating income of $14,392. Including investment activity, total net income for the month was ($19,845), reflecting typical market fluctuations.
FY2025
The fiscal year ending December 31, 2025, reflects a strong and stable financial position for AASPT.
The Academy generated approximately $744,402 in total revenue, with $555,362 in expenses, resulting in $189,040 in operating income for the year. Including investment performance, total net income reached $273,291, further strengthening our financial foundation.
Membership remains the Academy’s largest source of revenue, accounting for approximately 62% of total income, followed by meeting-related activities. These resources support member programs, research initiatives, professional development, and core operations.
Our largest area of expense is general administration and operational support, which ensures the infrastructure, staffing, and systems required to effectively deliver programs and services. Additional investments support our scholarly journals and educational initiatives that advance the field of sports physical therapy.
The Board approved several strategic allocations of the FY2025 operating surplus to support continued growth and sustainability. This includes expanding membership and communications support from a 0.5 FTE to a full-time role to enhance member engagement and communication efforts. The Board also approved an increase to the Academy’s legacy grant funding, doubling the award from $10,000 to $20,000.
Additional allocations include support for committee leadership engagement, such as travel for participation at CSM, and the establishment of a reserve for unforeseen expenses. Remaining funds were directed to reserves to maintain long-term financial stability.
